The three siblings of the Staples Jr. Singers are about to embark—incredibly—on this year's second tour of Europe. And even more exciting, they have 

, which we’d love to share with you in a bit—but in the meantime… 

Bremer/McCoy’s album was released into the wide open world earlier this month—and we couldn’t be happier for them. As some of you know, we have a little history with Jonathan and Morten. 

, and in some ways it feels like the culmination of a body of work. Together their three albums make up a series, unified by a common musical ethos.

You can hear it in the titles: The first album was called 

, and it was grounded. The second was called 

, or The Night, and it took inspiration from the stars. The third album, 

, takes their musical ideas further and further out, almost as far as they can go. As Morten once said of making cosmic music, “In order to space out, you have to know where you’re coming from.”

We’ve been touched by people’s responses, especially from people who got the record for themselves. Shout out to Oliver in France who called the record “pure bliss”: “this record brings me down to my knees,” he wrote.

Jonathan and Morten are hitting the road next month

 to play a few shows in Scandinavia—but many of you have also been asking when they’re coming to Europe and the States. The answer is: soon.

One of the challenges they face when they tour is that they travel with their own soundsystem. It’s quite an undertaking, but it’s also what makes their music such an incredible experience live. You feel their essential, pastoral melodies vibrate in your body. If you can see them while they’re in Denmark or Sweden or Norway, do. And know that plans are in the works for them to travel further and further out.

The Staples Jr. Singers will be in Europe for the second half of October, but first: They’re putting out a new song today.

For those of you who already know and love their 1975 classic “When Do We Get Paid,” we bring you “

,” which is a twenty-minute version that is more of a gospel séance than a song. The story behind this recording is kind of miraculous. And so is its powerful message, which feels cut right from the civil rights era. It happened more or less spontaneously when Edward, R.C., and Annie got together to play music in 2022, for the first time in more than forty years.

 during the exhibition Citing Black Geographies alongside Carrie Mae Weems, Theaster Gates, Amiri Baraka…but that’s a whole other story we don’t have space to get into here.

If you’re anywhere in France, Belgium, Czechia, Scandinavia, or Ireland, we hope you get the chance to see them do their relatively spontaneous, vibrant, moving thing in person.

We tend to think of Pharoah this time of year, like clockwork. It’s been almost two years to the day since he passed away, and in just a few weeks on October 13, he would be turning 84. We know that Pharoah meant a lot to a lot of people.
